Eight more P&O Ferries crew have tested positive for drugs.

Staff from the 48,000-gt cross-Channel Spirit of Britain (built 2011) had given urine samples during a check on Monday.

A total of 106 crew were tested. The eight have been suspended pending further analysis of the samples.

None was an officer, a spokesman for P&O Ferries told Kent Online.

In December, 13 crew from the 30,600–gt Pride of Canterbury (built 1991) failed tests.

The spokesman said 10 of those have since been sacked, while two have returned to work after samples were found to be negative.

P&O has vowed to continue with its zero-tolerance drug policy.
