US owner NCL is poised to ink a $4.2bn cruiseship order at Italy’s Fincantieri shipyard, according to a domestic report.
Ship2Shore said the 130,000-gt vessels would be delivered from 2022 if confirmed.
Other sources put a price tag of $700m on each ship as NCL follows global rivals in securing yard capacity well into the next decade.
TradeWinds has previously reported that NCL could be the next owner to approach European builders for cruiseships.
The owner was believed to be working on new designs for its mass-market NCL division and upscale Oceania operation.
NCL already has three 165,000-gt to 169,000-gt vessels due from Meyer Werft in 2017, 2018 and 2019, plus a 54,000-gt vessel on order at Fincantieri’s Sestri yard for delivery in 2020 for its Regent Seven Seas brand.
NCL has been contacted for comment, while the Italian yard said it could not comment on speculation.
