P&O Ferries is spending £8.5m on upgrading two ships deployed on its profitable Hull to Zeebrugge route.
The UK ferry operator will conduct infrastructure improvements on the 32,000-gt Pride of York and Pride of Bruges (both built 1987).
Janette Bell, chief commercial officer at P&O Ferries, said: “This year we have introduced weekend mini-cruises to the historic Belgian city of Bruges for customers on our Hull-Zeebrugge route.
“This major investment will take both vessels up to the next level in terms of outstanding customer service.”
Poland’s Remontowa shipyard has been assigned to retrofit P&O Ferries’ ships.
The company reported a 16% rise in freight traffic between Zeebrugge and Teesport last month.
