Aurora LPG has appointed Aage Figenschou as its new chief executive, replacing Nikolai Jebsen.

This move follows the takeover of the Oslo-listed company by BW LPG, which now owns more than 96%.

But Figenschou explained to TradeWinds his role would be temporary and he would only help during the transitional period.

The shipping veteran added the plan is to leave Aurora after two to four months and he will not be involved in the company afterwards.

Figenschou will replace ex-chief financial officer Jebsen, who was supposed to stay with the company as interim chief executive until March 2017.

Figenschou is also a director of offshore vessel owner World Wide Supply (WWS), which is controlled by bondholders.

He also played a key part during Eitzen Chemical’s restructuring in early 2015.

He describes his latest appointment at Aurora as “another part-time job”.

“I am not here to make business decisions, but based on my knowledge about shipping I can assume that when the Sohmen family takes over a company, this is good for the financial health of the company and its prospects,” he said.

Aurora's fleet of nine very large gas carriers (VLGCs) brings BW LPG's on-the-water fleet to 52 vessels.
