Four crewmen from a Malaysian tugboat have been kidnapped by Filipino gunmen in the second attack to have taken place in a week.
Local authorities have confirmed that eight armed men boarded the Malaysia-flagged tug Massive 6 (built 2002), while it was returning from the Philippines to Malaysia, on Friday night.
The four Malaysian seamen were held hostage while foreign crewmembers were left unharmed, the StarOnline reports.
This latest attack follows a similar incident on the small tugboat Brahma 12 (built 2015) last week, with the attackers keeping 10 men as hostages.
Reports claim that the gunmen have asked ransom of $1m for the 10 seafarers, while it is not known if they are linked to the notorious Abu Sayyaf militant group, thought to be Islamic extremists.
