At least six robbers are said to have boarded a Greek-owned aframax tanker off Malaysia early this morning.
Almi Tankers’ 105,571-dwt Almi Spirit (built 2007) was sailing in the Strait of Singapore when the incident took place, according to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).
MMEA director-general Admiral (Maritime) Datuk Ahmad Puzi Ab Kahar said in a Twitter message that police craft had intercepted the tanker.
The MMEA Southern Region said Johor Baharu District Maritime enforcement chief Capt (Maritime) Aminuddin Abd Rashid were scheduled to hold a media conference about the incident later today.
AIS data currently has the Liberian-flagged tanker at anchor in position 01° 25.67’N, 103° 44.89’E.
