Ships owned by Scorpio Bulkers, Torm and Alpha Bulkers were all targeted by teams of robbers off Indonesia last month, TradeWinds has learnt.
Just after 03:30 on 4 May Scorpio Bulkers' 84,900-dwt SBI Rumba (built 2015) was boarded by perpetrators off the Balikpapan Inner Anchorage, Indonesia.
Reports say the robber stole ship stores and property from the Marshall islands-flagged vessel while it was underway before escaping.
The incident, which took place in location in position 01° 20' S, 116° 52' E, was noticed by the duty crew on routine rounds and reported to the port authority.
On the same day, the 72,800-dwt bulker Alpha Effort (built 1999) was boarded by four armed perpetrators while off Samarinda Anchorage, Indonesia.
Reports say they tied-up the duty able seaman who was on patrol at the time of the incident, which took place at around 05:00 local time.
The alarm aboard the Greek-flagged vessel was raised and the crew mustered. However, the perpetrators escaped with ship stores.
Databases show the ship is operated by Alpha Bulkers, a company controlled by Christos Kanellakis and his wife, Anna, sister of John Angelicoussis.
Samarinda Anchorage was also the location for an attack on an unnamed 41,586-gt Hong Kong-flagged bulker on the 18 May.
While at anchor, perpetrators boarded the bulk carrier unnoticed just after midnight and reportedly stole five coils of mooring ropes.
Three days later the 46,200-dwt chemical product tanker Torm Ragnhild (built 2005) was targeted by robbers at the Jakarta Tanker Anchorage, Indonesia.
Upon arrival at berth, the ship's third mate was said to have found the starboard side door padlock and eye broken.
The fireman and chemical outfit boxes were also opened. Three chemical sets and two breathing apparatus sets were found missing.
The master suspected that the theft could have occurred while the ship was anchored between 01:00 to 03:30 during heavy rain.
Details of the incidents come in the latest monthly report by the Singapore-based Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) Information Sharing Centre.
