The car carrier Glovis Spring (built 2016), which grounded off Paracel Islands in Southern China, has been refloated and is awaiting final permission to sail to a repair yard.
The 7,409 car capacity vessel grounded last week and a Lloyd’s Open Form (LOF) contract was signed with Ardent Global Marine Services and Chinese salvage company Guangzhou Salvage.
The vessel was refloated within days and has since been undergoing safety inspections by classification society the Korean Register.
At one stage there were concerns that the owner, Seoul based Hyundai Glovis, may have to call general average for cargo claims and there were environmental concerns because it had grounded near a coral reef.
However, TradeWinds is told that there have been no cargo damage or pollution as a result of the grounding.
The Korean Register has already approved the ship as safe to sail to a repair yard.
TradeWinds understands the vessel still requires permission from the Chinese authorities before it is allowed to sail as the region is also used for Chinese navy and military exercises.
