A Princess Cruises vessel has suffered an ingress of water after colliding with the breakwater in the French port of Nice.

The 30,300-gt Pacific Princess (built 1999) is said to have run into an unexpected change in wind conditions off the French coast on Friday morning.

Reports say a compartment aboard the vessel became flooded and watertight doors were closed to prevent the inflow of sea water.

Divers are said to be on the scene assessing the damage to determine repair options and the amount of time required to complete.

“As a result of this incident we have made the decision to end the current cruise early so that necessary repairs can be made to the ship,” a Princess Cruises spokesman said.

“We will provide required transportation and lodging at our expense so that guests may proceed with their original onward travel arrangements as scheduled.”

The Pacific Princess was ten days into a twelve-day-cruise from Venice to Barcelona when the incident occurred.
