A Philippine seafarer has reportedly gone missing from a John Fredriksen-owned kamsarmax bulker while it was anchored off the US.
The unnamed chief mate is thought to have gone missing from Golden Ocean’s 82,188-dwt Golden Jake (built 2011) on Thursday evening.
The US Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound command center watchstanders received a call from the captain of the Golden Jake, reporting their chief mate missed the evening muster held at 18:00 on Thursday.
Reports say he was last seen during the morning vessel muster at 10:30 and was reportedly wearing red overalls.
The crew of the Marshall Islands-registered bulker are said to have conducted a complete search of the ship with negative results.
However, the US Coast Guard have suspended rescue operations after 25 searches throughout Thursday night and Friday morning proved unsuccessful.
The vessel, awaiting offload in Seattle, had been at anchor north of Blake Island State Park for 48 hours prior to the crew member going missing.
An investigation between Sector Puget Sound investigating officers and Customs and Border Protections officers is being conducted.
