A Thorco Projects-operated multi-purpose (MPP) heavy-lift ship was reported as disabled off the coast of Newfoundland, according to the Canadian Coast Guard.
The 10,500-dwt Thorco Crown (built 2004) is reported as disabled 32 nautical miles (59 kilometres) off Port Aux Basques. The Canadian Coast Guard has sent the ice breaker Sir William Alexander to monitor the vessel.
There is no immediate threat to the crew or to the environment, the Coast Guard said in a statement. It says the owners have arranged to have the vessel towed tomorrow.
The Thorco Crown is classed by DNV. The Swedish Club provide protection and indemnity coverage. No hull coverage information was immediately available.
Thorco recently teamed up with MC-Schiffahrt to form a pool of 14 ships.
