A German containership suffered a hull breach after being hit by a rig that had broken its moorings in the Canary Islands.
La Opinion reported that the West Taurus platform was forced into the berthed 749-teu Spica (built 1994) at Santa Cruz de Tenerife in Storm Emma on 1 March.
Footage from the port authority shows the rig drifting agonisingly slowly into the berthed vessel, which is visibly jolted on impact.
Seven bilge pumps were used to pump water out of the vessel.
Welders later closed the hole in the hull.
No pollution was reported.
The stabilised vessel remained berthed on Monday.
It is operated by H-P Wegener.
