DOF said it signed a management agreement for an anchor handling tug and supply (AHTS) vessel once owned by Farstad Supply, with an option to purchase.
The Norwegian offshore vessel owner said an unrelated Norwegian limited company purchased the 23,824-bhp Far Shogun (built 2010). The vessel is set for delivery between 15 June and 15 July 2017.
DOF said it will enter into an agreement with the new owner for the management and operation of the vessel.
The company has further an option to purchase the vessel at a price corresponding to the outstanding debt or approximately 50% to 60% of historical build costs.
The Far Shogun will be renamed Skandi Bergen after the takeover.
DOF chief executive Mons Aase said: "This agreement reflects the challenging market conditions, but we see it again as a vote of confidence in our global organization to be asked to manage and operate this vessel."
The Far Shogun operated primarily in the Asia Pacific region, but can also be utilised in the South America or Atlantic regions, DOF said.
