Greek group Laskaridis Shipping says its acquisition of a platform supply vessel (PSV) at auction is a one-off move.

The company confirmed to TradeWinds its purchase of the 4,500-dwt Malaviya Twenty (built 2004), now renamed Typhoon.

It said the ship is heading to the Astander shipyard in Santander, Spain, for maintenance work and drydocking after two years in layup.

Utilisation will be considered "in due course", it added, saying the group is not entering the offshore sector with the deal, its first OSV.

The ship spent more than two years in Great Yarmouth, UK, after its Indian owner GOL Offshore collapsed.

It was auctioned by the UK Admiralty Marshal last month for $1.076m and has now left the port.

The Greek company is better known as an owner of bulkers, reefers and tankers.

The PSV was held in June 2016 over unpaid port fees and crew wages.

The original crew has now returned home after repairs were carried out.

The order priority of claims will not be decided until 60 days after the sale, however.

The captain of the vessel hit the headlines earlier this summer during his long ordeal at the port.

He and three others were owed $65,000.
