Shipbroker Braemar ACM has won a contract to provide sale-and-purchase and chartering services to the UK Ministry of Defence.
The deal is worth up to £9.9m ($12.3m) over seven years.
The contract was clinched following a tender by the ministry’s salvage & marine operations (Salmo) team.
Braemar ACM, part of London-listed Braemar Shipping Services, said it won the business after a competitive bid against other shipbrokers.
The contract covers S&P, spot and period chartering and market intelligence for all Salmo’s needs across the globe and across all maritime sectors.
Chartering will include routine and emergency response requirements.
TradeWinds understands four other brokers were in the running.
Andy Liddell, head of Salmo, said: “This is an important contract which will provide a range of services to UK defence, and we look forward to working with Braemar over the next seven years.”
Edward Molyneux, Braemar’s global head of offshore energy services, said the ministry has exceptionally high standards and expects its partners to consistently deliver value for money.
“I’m therefore enormously proud that the ministry has awarded Braemar the contract, which is a clear reflection of the breadth and depth of our global expertise and our reputation in the shipbroking sector,” he added.
Key operations
The Salmo team is a key element of the ministry’s global capability.
The unit provides towage, heavylift, salvage and mooring services, port clearance, marine warranty assurance, underwater engineering and management of the UK’s military wreck inventory.
Salmo also offers these services to other government departments such as transport and the Foreign Office and Home Office.
Adrian Wooldridge, Braemar’s head of projects, said: “A contract of this breadth and depth is as complex as a symphony, requiring a whole orchestra to do it justice.
“I’m very pleased by the multi-desk collaboration and sharing of expertise across the numerous functions that we operate in. Success is best when it’s shared, and it was a commitment to the group effort that enabled us to win this contract.”
