Fincantieri has emerged as the sole bidder for cruiseship specialist yard STX France.
While it was expected that four parties would make an offer for the subsidiary of the collapsed STX Group, a spokesman for a Korean court told Reuters that only one bid had been received.
STX France could be sold separately or along with the group’s Korean yards and businesses.
Besides Fincantieri, Dutch shipbuilder Damen was also believed to be among the parties that would submit an offer.
Fincantieri declined to comment when contacted by TradeWinds earlier today.
France, which has a 33% stake in STX France, has said that it has no intention to buy a majority stake in the yard, but would retain its minority holding.
The price of the bid still remains unclear but a spokesman told AFP that if the offered price is too low then a fresh round of bidding would be opened.
Bloomberg reported that the bid price for STX France was below EUR 100m ($104.4m) according to Banca IMI and the brokerage added the yard would need some restructuring actions.
