Russia's new Far East shipyard Zvezda is to build Lider-class icebreakers.

This is according to deputy prime minister Yury Borisov, who was cited by the Interfax-AVN news agency.

"The president has agreed to designate Zvezda as the sole builder of Lider-class icebreakers. The government will draft a relevant resolution on the president's orders. Funding has been provided," Borisov said.

"There will be three such icebreakers in all. They will be built by Zvezda in collaboration with other Russian shipbuilders, including the Baltic Plant. They will make certain parts, hardware."
