Periods of dense fogs are expected to continue hitting the Texas coast as transits slowly resume on the Houston Ship Channel.

The Houston Pilots suspended vessel boardings as of 1700 hours on Monday due to the heavy fog, which hits the channel seasonally. Boardings resumed at approximately 1000 hours today.

A spokesman for the Houston Pilots says ship traffic is currently limited to inbound transits due to the fog conditions.

Pilots have made 12 inbound transits so far. Another 35 ships, though, are waiting outside the Channel for inbound transits. Houston Pilots says "another 20 or so" ships are docked and waiting to voyage outbound.

The US National Weather Service's Marine Forecast says fog will hit the region through Wednesday night.
