US-based leasing company Icon Capital has sold its only suezmax tanker, brokers say.
The Jiangsu Rongsheng-built, 156,500-dwt Shamrock (built 2011) has reportedly been sold for $31m to a European buyer that has it on time charter.
VesselsValue says the ship, which has been employed in the Stena Sonangol Suezmax Pool, is worth $34m.
Confirmation
Stena Bulk chief executive Erik Hanell confirmed that the ship is leaving the pool, which is a leading suezmax player with 23 vessels.
The Shamrock was bought from Turkey’s Geden Lines as the Center, reportedly for $58m in January 2015.
Geden had agreed to take it back on bareboat charter at $20,000 per day with a purchase option at $64.5m at the end of the charter.
But by the summer of 2016, Icon claimed Geden was $2.7m behind on hire payments. In June that year, it took the tanker back and entered it into the Stena Sonangol pool.
