Denmark’s Maersk Tankers appears to have found a new buyer for a small clean carrier acquired through the 2008 takeover of Sweden’s Brostrom.

European brokers reported the 17,000-dwt Bro Agnes (built 2008) bought by an undisclosed third party, but they differed on the price, which was put at either $14m or $14.9m.

An earlier sale was reported at $14.3m last November.

VesselsValue assesses the ship as worth $12m, against $7.8m a year ago.

The Bro Agnes still has a special survey due.

The 17,000-dwt sister vessel Bro Anna (built 2008) was reported sold at the same time in November, but remains in the fleet.

The buyer of both ships was named as either Norway’s Rederiet Stenersen or Poland’s Oktan Energy.

Maersk Tankers does not comment on rumours and speculation.

Nor has it commented on the other three Brostrom vessels it still operates. These were built in 2007 and 2008.

Stenersen acquired four other former Brostrom ships from Maersk Tankers in May 2022: the 16,400-dwt Bro Nakskov, 16,500-dwt Bro Nibe and Bro Nordby, and 16,600-dwt Bro Nyborg (all built 2007).

Family-owned Stenersen said the purchase had positive effects on the company.

Sigve Stenersen, finance & commercial director at the Bergen operation, told Finansavisen: “The purchase of these ships entails that Brostrom is phased out as a serious competitor in our segment.”

AP Moller-Maersk bought product tanker rival Brostrom in 2008 for SEK 3.62bn — then worth $567m — but it disposed of the smaller segments of the former Brostrom fleet over the next few years.
