Intertanko has re-elected Nikolas Tsakos as its chairman for a two-year term.

The tanker industry group's council made the decision this week during its meeting in London.

Tsakos, the chief executive of New York-listed Tsakos Energy Navigation,  was first appointed to the role in 2014 after serving as vice president of the association.

Since taking the reins, he has urged fellow shipowners to seek rehab for their tanker ordering addiction, welcomed private equity investors to the industry (while urging them also not to order newbuildings) and overseen an organisation that has sought to stay at the centre of the debate over new environmental mandates on shipping.

Tsakos's re-election announcement came the same day that Intertanko said it enjoyed "excellent dialogue" in meetings with International Maritime Organization Secretary General Kitack Lim (pictured) and John Hayes, the UK Minister of State at the Department of Transportation.

Intertanko also announced today that it will keep its member dues unchanged this year.
