Samudera Shipping Line says efforts to secure the release of a supramax bulker detained in Honduras last year have been delayed for a second time.
The 57,400-dwt Sinar Kapuas (built 2011) was held in November 2018 in the port of San Lorenzo for claims derived from the delayed delivery of the cargo.
“We had initially expected to secure the release of the vessel in March 2019, but the process is taking longer than expected,” Samudera said.
“The policy underwriters and appointed lawyers continue to support the group to seek release of the vessel and minimise the financial exposure arising from the claim.”
Samudera, which is listed in Singapore, said it was “fairly confident of, and working hard towards”, securing the release of the vessel in the second quarter of 2019.
The Indonesian shipowner said the claim amount has been compromised at $600,000 and that this falls within the initial estimated financial impact of $1.7m.
Samudera said it will only be able to calculate the actual financial impact after the release of the vessel.
