Viking Cruises is branding its liquid hydrogen (LH2) vessel concept as “a ship without compromises” where luxury, safety and sustainability go hand in hand, according to project manager Serge Fossati.

Using LH2 as the fuel is cleaner and provides a smoother, quieter voyage with less noise pollution and vibration.

Fossati says the philosophy of the project is clean air and minimal impact on marine life.

“Our customers care about ecological problems, and we want to be closer to nature,” he says.

Part of the “conscious cruising” concept could even include a glass-enclosed onboard botanic garden sustained by the ship’s waste-heat recovery system, while the obsolete funnel area will be used for an expanded cabin offering as duplex suites.
