Norway’s richest person, John Fredriksen, has lost an estimated NOK 10bn ($1.1bn) in fortune over the last year, according Kapital magazine.
The 76-year-old shipping tycoon lost heavily on his salmon farming company Mowi, but he still has a net worth of NOK 104m, which makes him far richer than number two person on the list.
Fredriksen is a Cypriot citizen but has strong ties to Norway, and some 70 to 80 people are employed in his Seatankers office in Oslo.
Fredriksen has a diversified portfolio with both tankers, bulkers, offshore and real estate.
Number two on Kapital’s list of wealthy Norwegians is Torstein Hagen and his cruise empire Viking Cruises.
This company has taken a big hit primarily due the coronavirus crisis, and Hagen’s fortune has dropped a massive NOK 40bn to NOK 20bn.
Aker's Kjell Inge Rokke’s empire is also shrinking, although not as dramatically as Hagen’s. He is now in ninth place with NOK 27.5m.
Among the big losers are Tor Olav Troim, Fredriksen’s former righthand man. He was listed with a fortune of NOK 2.8bn in 2018. This figure dropped to NOK 1.2bn last year, and now Troim is not even listed among Norway’s 400 richest people.
